The UK is advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the issue and did not participate in US strikes on Iran’s primary nuclear sites.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday implicitly supported President Donald Trump’s decision, despite Britain’s lack of direct involvement, by stating that Iran’s nuclear program poses “a grave threat to international security.”

In order to resolve this problem diplomatically,we urge Iran to go back to the negotiating table,”he continued.

The US did not ask the British for help in the attack or to use its facility at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, according to Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, who spoke on behalf of the government on Sky News.

The UK government was concerned about whether the US’s possible use of that site for strikes on Iran complied with international law.

According to Reynolds, the US did notify the UK ahead of time of the operation.

The failure of European countries’ attempts to deescalate the crisis is demonstrated by the US decision to move forward with military action. Despite their discussions with their Iranian counterparts on Friday, foreign ministers from the UK, France, and Germany were unable to convince Trump to halt the plan.

“My first concern is the protection of UK people and establishments. We deployed more jets this week, and force protection is at its highest level,” UK Defense Secretary John Healey stated.

Before heading to The Hague this week for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit,Starmer will spend Sunday talking over the phone with allies about the next steps.

Although the UK government has not been involved in these attacks, Reynolds stated,”We have been making extensive preparations for all eventualities, including how we look after British nationals in the region and how we get them out,as well as the assets we have in the region to protect British infrastructure,British bases, and British personnel if we need to do that.”

“We need a diplomatic process to turn this around, but Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he continued.
