Sensex dives 600 pts, Nifty ends below 24,850 : May 27, 2025

Following two days of advances, the indices of the Indian stock market, the Sensex and Nifty 50, saw major losses on May 27. Weak global cues caused the Sensex to fall more than 600 points and the Nifty 50 to settle below 24,850.

 

 

The benchmarks of the Indian stock market, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, closed Tuesday, May 27, with heavy losses, ending their two-day winning streak.

In contrast to its previous finish of 82,176.45, the Sensex began at 82,038.20 and plummeted 1,055 points, or 1.3%, to an intraday low of 81,121.70. The Nifty 50 fell 1.2% to an intraday low of 24,704.10 after opening at 24,956.65 compared to its previous finish of 25,001.15.

After adjusting for losses, the Sensex ended the day 625 points (0.76%) lower at 81,551.30, while the Nifty 50 ended the day 163 points (0.65%) lower at 24,826.20.

 

 

However, the small-cap and mid-cap sectors performed better, finishing with modest gains. At the end, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 0.11 and 0.19 percent, respectively.

In the previous session, the total market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE fell to over ₹443 lakh crore from almost ₹445 lakh crore.
