Sikkim Landslide: Three soldiers were killed and six more were reported missing when a landslide caused by intense rain struck an Indian Army base in Lachen, Sikkim. Rescue efforts are still in progress.

Sikkim Landslide: In the midst of intense rain in Lachen, Sikkim, a huge landslide slammed an Army camp, resulting in at least three military deaths and six reported missing.

At around 7 p.m. on Sunday,the incident took place.

An official statement states that “a catastrophic landslide,triggered by heavy rainfall,struck the Indian Army military camp at Chaten in District Lachen on the evening of June 1,2025,at approximately 7:00 PM.”

It stated, “The Indian Army showed unmatched dedication and fortitude in the face of hardship by swiftly launching rescue operations.”

Heavy Rain Triggers Multiple Landslides In Sikkim,
Four persons were rescued following the landslide,according to the announcement, and they were only slightly hurt.

Porter Abhishek Lakhada,Havaldar Lakhwinder Singh,and Lance Naik Munish Thakur were identified as the three deceased.

According to the announcement,”rescue teams are working tirelessly around the clock under extremely difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions to locate and rescue the six personnel who remain missing.”

The Teesta River is in risk of overflowing, and numerous roads and bridges in Sikkim have been destroyed by heavy rains.

The Chungthang-Phidang road in Mangan district has been repaired, enabling the safe evacuation of stranded tourists to begin,the Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department said earlier on Monday.

A search and rescue effort was still in progress for the nine tourists who vanished on the evening of May 29 when their car crashed into the Teesta River.

A few hours ago, some of the more than 1,000 visitors who were stuck in Lachen and Lachung were evacuated.

Rainfall is expected across the majority of the northeast on June 5, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), but the maximum temperature in many places remains relatively unchanged.
