Actor Ranya Rao was given 12 acres for a steel mill by the former BJP administration in February 2023, according to Karnataka’s KIADB. Following her arrest for smuggling gold, substantial assets were seized, which sparked political outrage.
Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was recently detained by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for smuggling gold from Dubai, was given land to build a steel mill by the previous BJP administration in February 2023, according to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).
According to PTI, this declaration was made in response to rumors that a business connected to the actor had received 12 acres of industrial land from the KIADB in 2023.

The government’s final notification, issued on February 22, 2023, by the office of Minister for Medium and Large Industries M B Patil, confirmed the land allocation to Ranya’s company, Ksiroda India, at the Sira Industrial Area in Tumakuru district, as the matter started to take a political turn.
The Karnataka Assembly elections in May 2023 saw the Congress defeat the BJP and take power.
The minister’s office released the Karnataka government’s proceedings,which stated: “M/s Ksiroda India Private Limited’s proposal to establish a unit for the manufacture of’steel products – TMT bars,rods and allied products’ at Sira Industrial Area,Tumakuru district,was approved.”
“The government is pleased to accord in-principle approval to the investment proposal of ₹138 crore, generating employment to about 160 persons with the following infrastructure assistances,incentives and concessions,” stated the statement.
According to a press statement from Patil’s office,the KIADB stated that the allocation to the Rao-affiliated entity was completed in January 2023. In reference to the BJP,KIADB CEO Mahesh stated on Sunday that the previous administration had given Ksiroda India 12 acres of land on January 2,2023,according to PTI.
“The land, located in Sira Industrial Area,Tumakuru district,was approved for allotment during the 137th State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) meeting held on the same day,when the last govt was in power,” said Mahesh.
The KIADB press statement stated that the company has proposed to invest ₹138 crore to establish a manufacturing facility for steel TMT bars,rods,and related goods. It was anticipated that the project would create about 160 employment.
Gold smuggling case of Ranya Rao :
Following searches at her home, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) announced on March 5 that gold bars valued at ₹12.56 crore had been confiscated from Ranya at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on March 3. Additionally,gold jewelry valued at ₹2.06 crore and Indian currency totaling ₹2.67 crore had been found.
Senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao,who is currently the chairman and managing director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.,has a stepdaughter named Ranya.
Organized gold smuggling networks suffered a serious setback when a total of ₹17.29 crore,including assets valued at ₹4.73 crore,was recovered in the case.
