Protesters attack Karachi Bakery over name : May 12, 2025
Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan,protesters targeted Hyderabad’s Karachi Bakery and demanded a name change.
Days after the Karachi Bakery in Hyderabad faced criticism for its name as tensions between India and Pakistan erupted during Operation Sindoor,a group of demonstrators stormed the establishment. A group of ten to fifteen men staged “anti-Pakistan slogans” outside the 73-year-old bakery on Sunday, according to news agency PTI.

Social media videos showed a group of people demanding a name change for the bakery business storming an outlet while wearing saffron scarves. Holding tricolour flags,they gathered in front of the Karachi Bakery in Shamshabad and allegedly attempted to smash the nameboard of the establishment with sticks. However,according to an Indian Express article,neither the crew nor the outlet were believed to have suffered any significant damage.
Police officers were seen in the widely shared videos while the men persisted in attacking the outlet’s signboard.The demonstrators were quickly dispersed,according to the police.
Social media videos showed a cloth partially covering the store’s nameboard.According to PTI,a complaint has been made against the demonstrators,who are accused of obstructing admission by holding the demonstration in front of the establishment.
Owners safeguard their brand.
According to Rajesh and Harish Ramanani,the proprietors of Karachi Bakery,the bakery chain is a “100 per cent Indian brand” that was established by their grandpa Khanchand Ramnani in 1953 when he immigrated to India following the Partition,they told PTI.
“We ask for the assistance of senior administrative personnel and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in order to stop any name changes. Tricolor is being displayed in bakery locations throughout the city. We are an Indian brand, not a Pakistani one, therefore please support us,” they told PTI.
After 40 members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in the Pulwama terror incident in 2019, the bakery chain has already experienced criticism. Demanding a name change, demonstrators stormed the bakery’s Indiranagar location in Bengaluru.
