PM Modi gives forces free hand after Pahalgam attack : Apr30

At a meeting with the Defense Minister,NSA,CDS,and the leaders of the Army,Air Force,and Navy,Mr. Modi asserts that the security forces are responsible for determining the response’s mode,targets,and timing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that India has a”national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism”and that the Indian armed forces have his full confidence and “complete operational freedom to decide on the mode,targets,and timing” of India’s response to the terror attack at Pahalgam last week,which claimed 26 lives.

According to reports, the Prime Minister made this statement while meeting with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Marshal A.P. Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. On Tuesday,the meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s home.

A day before PM Modi is scheduled to chair the Cabinet Committee on Security for the second meeting since the Pahalgam incident,a high-level discussion was held,according to government sources.

Observes diplomatic procedures :
India initiated a number of diplomatic actions against Pakistan, which is suspected of being responsible for the attack,immediately following the Pahalgam massacre. These actions included suspending the Indus Water Treaty and canceling visas for Pakistani nationals. The fact that Mr. Modi met with the three service chiefs,the CDS,the NSA,and the defense minister suggests that military action is also being contemplated.

According to a government source, Prime Minister Modi “expressed complete faith and confidence in the professional abilities of the Indian Armed Forces.” The insider also stated,”He continued by saying that they [the armed forces] have total operational freedom to choose the mode,targets,and timing of our response.”

Fire across the Line of Control :
According to defense officials,intelligence-based targeted counterterrorism operations persisted in Kashmir despite the fifth night in a row of cease-fire violations (CFV) along the Line of Control (LoC).

“The Pakistan Army used unprovoked small arms firing across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnoor sector, during the night of April 28-29,” the Army stated. “The provocation was met with a measured and effective response from the Indian Army.”
