A journalist’s comment on the “outdated way of playing cricket” makes the CSK coach snap.
When the journalist criticized CSK style of cricket,Stephen Fleming vented his frustration.
Stephen Fleming of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost his temper with a reporter after his team’s Friday defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Fleming argued with the reporter who contrasted CSK’s style of cricket with that of the other teams. However, the former captain of New Zealand was not in a good mood and chastised the reporter for his “silly” query. CSK’s season-opening defeat came at the hands of RCB,who triumphed by 50 runs at the Chepauk for the first time since 2008.
Fleming vented his annoyance at the reporter, who was critical of CSK’s style of cricket, during a news conference held after the game.

Reporter: “You chased 156 in nearly 20 overs in the first game. You scored 146 today. I get that this is how you play cricket, but do you think it’s becoming a bit dated?
Fleming: What does my style of play imply to you? You discuss firepower. All the way through,we have firepower. This question is beyond my comprehension. Just watch who wins in the end, even if we don’t hit ball number one and luck favors us. It is a cricket brand that is positive.Do not undervalue us.
Journalist : I am not discounting you.
You kind of are, said Fleming. Thats a dumb question.
Fleming asserted that there is no home advantage because his side has frequently failed to read the pitch.
“Well,Chepauk had no home advantage,as we have been telling you for a number of years. We’ve had a few victories away from home. At the news conference after the game,Fleming stated,”And we haven’t been able to read… we’ve been really honest with you.”
“Over the past few years, we haven’t been able to read the wickets here. It is therefore not new. We don’t know, but we’re trying to accept what we get every day. You can’t just go in and play four spinners like you used to at the Chepauk [of old]. The nature of each pitch is very different, and we’re having to put in a lot of effort to attempt to comprehend it,”he continued.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK,stated that 170 runs was a “par total” on the Chepauk pitch and that some extra boundaries and dropped catches cost them the match.
“I still believe that 170 was a par score on this wicket,to be honest. Batting wasn’t that terrific. We lost a lot of money because it was a horrible fielding day. Ultimately, you bat differently when you are chasing 170. When you bat,you have a limited amount of time. You have to bat a little differently in the powerplay when you are trying to score 20 more runs on a wicket that you know will be a little sticky and will halt once the ball gets old. It became slightly slower and more sticky.I don’t really know how it happened, but the new ball was sticking a lot until the fifth over,Gaikwad remarked.
