Congress MPs KC Venugopal, Gaurav Gogoi, and Manickam Tagore filed adjournment requests to address the US government’s deportation of more than 100 Indian nationals.

The expulsion of over 100 Indian nationals is the matter at hand. On Wednesday, a US Air Force aircraft carrying Indian nationals who are suspected of having entered the country illegally touched down in Amritsar, Punjab.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to President Droupadi Murmu’s comments during the Rajya Sabha debate. Question Hour will start the Lok Sabha session today. The next step is for a number of ministries to submit their parliamentary papers.

Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, asked for an adjournment to investigate the deportation of over 100 Indians by the US government, claiming that it was “carried out under conditions that are deeply distressing and humiliating.”

An adjournment motion has also been presented by Manickam Tagore, the Congress whip in the Lok Sabha, to address the “inhumane deportation of Indian Nationals by the United States…and take all necessary steps to prevent the humiliation and mistreatment of Indian nationals abroad.”

• In the meanwhile, the Income Tax Act of 1961 is expected to be replaced by a new income tax bill that is submitted to Parliament today.

The government’s deportation policy is criticised by the opposition.

Several opposition MPs condemned the administration for its handling of Indians who were deported from the United States and questioned how it treated them.

104 Indian immigrants who were unauthorised were deported in the first wave of the Trump administration’s campaign against illegal immigration when a US military plane carrying them landed in Amritsar on Wednesday.

According to the deportees, they were handcuffed the entire way and only unchained when they reached the airport in Amritsar.

Opposition MPs staged a protest in Parliament against the treatment by US authorities, including Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav. A few of the leaders took part while handcuffed.
