Actress Ranya Rao, who is incarcerated, acknowledges smuggling 17 gold bars.

Bengaluru, Mar.8: After being arrested on March 4 at Kempegowda International Airport,Kannada actress Ranya Rao,also known as Harshavardini Ranya, confessed to smuggling 17 gold bars in a statement to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).She asked DRI personnel to keep the incident private, claiming to be a freelancer in Dubai’s real estate industry.

Her stepfather,Karnataka IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao, is not mentioned in the statement, which was recorded in accordance with Section 108 of the Customs Act, 1962. The document, which is in the form of a question-and-answer session and is signed by top intelligence officers M Chokkalingam, Neha Kumari, and Nageshwara Rao Kadiri,attests to the seizure of 17 gold bars from her possession.

Ranya revealed that she had visited the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and Dubai, as well as Europe and America. She said she was tired and asked to do the statement procedure again the next day. She also admitted to being aware of the Customs Act’s penalties for giving inaccurate or deceptive information.

Ranya described her upbringing as the daughter of a real estate entrepreneur, growing up in Bengaluru. She is a wildlife photographer, a former theater and film artist, and a 12th grade graduate. Jatin Hukkeri, an architect, is her spouse.

The actress reaffirmed her request for seclusion and acknowledged that 17 gold bars had been seized during the airport mahazar proceedings. She stated that her statement was given willingly and free of coercion, and she reaffirmed her readiness to assist with the investigation.

A Bengaluru court postponed her bail request on Friday and ordered her to be held by the DRI. She is presently being held by the courts. From her home on Lavelle Road, where she allegedly paid Rs 4.5 lac in rent, the DRI confiscated 14.8 kg of gold valued at Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash.

DGP K Ramachandra Rao responded to his stepdaughter’s arrest by expressing his amazement and grief. He was caught off guard by the news that his second wife had a daughter, Ranya.
