The selection process will begin at noon when the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, its highest decision-making body, meets to choose “observers” for the meeting of freshly elected lawmakers later today.
Delhi, New Delhi: According to party insiders who spoke to Media on Wednesday morning, the new chief minister of Delhi will be appointed this evening. The new chief minister will be the first member of the Bharatiya Janata Party to serve in the nation’s capital in nearly three decades.
The selection process began at noon when the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, its top decision-making body, met to choose “observers” for the gathering of the newly elected members later today.
That meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose trip to France and the US caused the selection process to be postponed. Those ‘observers’ will now be present when the BJP’s MLAs meet at 6:15 p.m. to select their Assembly leader, who will subsequently be named Chief Minister.
The newly chosen Chief Minister will then take the oath of office in a formal ceremony at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
The oath ceremony would continue from 11 a.m. to 12:34 p.m. at the city’s well-known Ramlila Maidan. At 12:05 p.m., the actual oath will be administered.
The sources state that there will be three stages:
one for the Prime Minister, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, and the new Chief Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah; another for invited religious leaders; and a third for MPs and MLAs, a total of 200 of whom have been invited from the BJP and its support.
Atishi, the outgoing Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, and Devender Yadav, the head of the Congress’ Delhi unit, have also been invited.
Delhi’s Suspenseful Chief Minister :
Last week, was informed that 15 individuals had been shortlisted from among the 48 BJP MLAs to serve as the Assembly Speaker, Chief Minister, and cabinet members.

The obvious choice for the crucial role is Parvesh Verma, a two-time former MP who defeated Arvind Kejriwal to win the New Delhi seat.
The party’s shortlist for chief minister is also anticipated to include Bansuri Swaraj, a recent lawmaker and the daughter of the late former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, and Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the BJP’s Delhi unit.Another choice is Satish Upadhyay, the Brahmin face of the BJP in Delhi.
The possibility of a female chief minister being chosen by the BJP has also been discussed. Neelam Pahalwan, Rekha Gupta, Poonam Sharma, and Shikha Roy are the four female new MLAs for the BJP.
Ms. Sharma won the seat of Wazirpur, Ms. Pahalwan became the first female Member of Parliament from the Najafgarh constituency, Ms. Gupta was the former President of the Delhi University Students’ Union, and Ms. Roy became yet another “giant slayer” by defeating Saurabh Bharadwaj and a senior AAP leader for the Greater Kailash seat.
Additionally, the BJP has historically taken caste into account when choosing chief ministers; comparable delays following victories in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in 2023 serve as an example.
Four of the new Members of Parliament are members of Scheduled Castes: Kailash Gangwal from Madipur, Ravikant Ujjain from Trilokpuri, Ravinder Indraj Singh from Bawana, and Raj Kumar Chauhan, who was elected from Mangolpuri.
Election Results in Delhi There has been increasing anticipation for Delhi’s future chief minister since the afternoon of February 8, when it became evident that the BJP had masterminded an amazing return to power in the city.
Mr. Modi’s party won 48 of the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi after being repressed for 26 years by the Congress and then the AAP.
For comparison, in the two previous Delhi elections, the party received a total of 11 votes.
As the AAP sought to win a third consecutive term, attacks on party leader Arvind Kejriwal over the “sheeshmahal” and liquor excise policy scandals brought the party to its knees. The party was nevertheless able to win 22 seats in spite of this.
For background, the party won 67 and 62 seats in the 2015 and 2020 elections, respectively.
For the third time in a row, the Congress was overwhelmingly defeated.
