Delhi, New Delhi:
An adviser to the Prime Minister has referred to the USAID agency as the “biggest scam in human history” after the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, claimed to have canceled US funds intended to influence “voter turnout in India.”

A day earlier, the DOGE, which was entrusted with investigating anomalies in US humanitarian aid during the Biden administration, announced that it had canceled cash intended for projects in a number of nations. $29 million for “strengthening political landscape” in Bangladesh, $20 million for “fiscal federalism” in Nepal, and $21 million for “voter turnout in India” were among them.

The DOGE, which is carrying out the Trump crackdown to reduce federal spending, has made the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the biggest humanitarian agency of the US government, its main target.

The ruling BJP accused the DOGE of “external interference” in the country’s election process after the DOGE claim on money for India’s “voter turnout” was deemed “baseless” by a former chief election commissioner. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s adviser, Sanjeev Sanyal, made the most recent statement. On Sunday, the member of PM Modi’s Economic Advisory Council wanted to know who in India had been given the $21 million.

In addition to calling USAID the “biggest scam in human history,” Mr. Sanyal stated, “I would love to find out who received the US$29 million spent to “strengthen political landscape in Bangladesh” and the US$21 million spent to “improve voter turnout in India.”

He made these remarks after SY Quraishi, who commanded the Indian Election Commission from 2010 to 2012, categorically denied the allegations. “The report in a section of media about an MoU by the ECI in 2012, when I was CEC, for funding of certain million dollars by a US agency for raising voter turnout in India does not have an iota of fact.”

With its national spokesperson, Amit Malviya, accusing foreign powers of “systematic infiltration” of Indian institutions, the BJP yesterday attempted to ascertain who benefited from the cash that the DOGE had detected. he said that billionaire financier George Soros and his purported global influence network were a threat to India’s election process.

“It is becoming increasingly evident that the Congress-led UPA systematically enabled the infiltration of India’s institutions by forces opposed to the nation’s interests-those who seek to weaken India at every opportunity,” he had stated.
