India stocks: Iran war to US trade boost : June 20, 2025
In the face of tariff uncertainty and geopolitical concerns, the Indian stock market is still erratic. So far in June, the Nifty 50 has moved between 24,470 and 25,200. There are both headwinds and tailwinds affecting the home market.
Due to stretched valuations, Trump’s tariff-related concerns, and increased geopolitical tensions, the Indian stock market has been rangebound for about a month.
Although the benchmark Nifty 50 has gained almost 1% so far in June, it has not been able to sustain and grow gains, remaining between 24,470 and 25,200.
Due to conflicting triggers, the domestic market remains range-bound.
There are significant macro tailwinds at home. In FY26, India’s GDP is predicted to grow by roughly 6–6.5 percent, while inflation may drop to less than 4%.
Following the June policy meeting, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra maintained the real GDP growth estimates at 6.5% for the year but reduced the CPI (consumer price index)-based inflation predictions for FY26 from the initial projection of 4% to 3.7%.
The Indian economy is predicted by the World Bank to expand by 6.3% in FY26. India would have the world’s fastest-growing major economy with a growth rate of more than 6%. Furthermore, the World Bank projects that the Indian economy would expand by 6.5% in FY27 and 6.7% in FY28, a little quicker.
However, the main obstacles facing the local market are geopolitical tensions, the global economic slowdown, and the uncertainty surrounding US President Donald Trump’s tariff proposals.
The Indian economy is still dominated by local consumption, yet the home market cannot be totally shielded from changes occurring abroad.
